Thanksgiving Program on Nov. 24

Parents, watch for an invitation soon to attend a short Thanksgiving program put on by our class. We plan to do it Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 11:00 AM in our classroom. Space is limited, but we'll try to squeeze everyone in. Hope you can come. We have lots of fun and entertaining Thanksgiving poems and songs to share with you.

Peer Tutoring

Peer tutoring (aka Book Buddies) started on Nov. 9. Each student in our class is paired up with a 5th grader from Mrs. Simkins' class. Students will have peer tutoring Mon-Thurs for six weeks up until Christmas break on Dec. 18. Students' reading levels will soar! This program is wonderful for improving fluency, expression, and overall ready competency. Students read one-on-one with their tutor for 25 minutes each time. Parents, please remind your student to bring their peer tutoring book back to school each day (even if it's a chapter book). Thanks for reading with your special 2nd grader every night.

Halloween Information Update

Good News . . . . masks are now allowed for the school Halloween Parade. Students will need to take their masks off while inside the school but can wear them for the parade. Face paint is okay, too. Parade will start at 9:15 rather than 9:30. Parents can watch the parade outside around the track. We will join the 5th graders for some funky Halloween dancing right after the parade on the basketball court and then have our party inside the classroom.

Historical Sites Field Trip was Great!

Our historical sites field trip yesterday was great fun. The weather was perfect and all students learned much about our rich Santa Clara heritage. We thank Mrs. Sherri Anderson from the Santa Clara Historical Society, the fine ladies of Grandma Tobler's Bakery, and the patient guides at the Jacob Hamblin Home.

Walk to School Day was Spectacular!

Today was a crisp and sunny day, perfect for walking. Students enjoyed seeing all the posters hanging on the front fence and dancing to the music as they entered the school grounds. We said the pledge together and sang the national anthem. Mrs. Roberts, our librarian, talked to the students about staying fit and remembering to exercise and eat healthful foods. We all did the 'funky chicken' dance and received a special sticker for walking to school. We are proud to be a GOLD MEDAL SCHOOL.

Halloween Festivities

The school Halloween parade will be Oct. 30, a Friday, starting at 9:30 AM. Send your special 2nd grader to school dressed in their costume all ready to go. Parents can watch the parade on the back playground along the track. Our class party will be held directly after the parade. We will also try to squeeze in a spelling test and a short math lesson that day.

Start now to help your child decide on a costume so we can all be ready to have a S P O O K T A C U L A R Halloween this year.
